Normalization and Zoning

Normal Zone tape proposes interactive acts between users of architecture and numerous unclassified effects of the built situations we live and work in. For this interaction Normal Group for Architecture produces different sets of portable tools.

Normal Zone - adhesive tape for site-specific or general use

"Normal Zoning" is an initiative towards the process of identifying built situations based on their symptoms. As a parallel call for action to "Interactive Normalization," "Normal Zoning" consists of the careful use of the yellow marking tape prepared by the authors. The tape is printed with the repeated statement "Normal Zone" and an arrow pointing upwards as a separator. The use of the tape is optional. The authors suggest that in the future similar tapes can be given to clients or to architectural critics to describe to their architects at what they believe is normal in space, according to their opinion and knowledge. Architects can respond by an adequate design proposal or by another set of architectural prescriptions.
